MYRIAD-EU’s 2nd annual meeting in Austria

Researchers from the project met for their 2nd annual meeting in Laxenburg, close to Austria’s capital Vienna, and virtually. The event didn’t only unite academics from more than a dozen different research institutions but also industry experts.

The general assembly meeting took place on 7-8 April 2022 and was organised by the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VUA) and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). The event was generously hosted by IIASA in their offices outside of Vienna and online.

The 2 days were filled with interesting presentations on the progress of the different Work Packages of the MYRIAD-EU project. The meeting gave researchers the opportunity to discuss their work with other consortium members than their immediate team members and to receive valued input from the project’s sectoral representatives and external advisers, like Virginia Murray, Head of Global Disaster Risk Reduction for the UK Health Security Agency.

One afternoon was dedicated to MYRIAD-EU’s 9 PhD students who each got the chance to present their research project. The presentations by Judith Claassen, Kelley De Polt, Davide Ferrario, Ruoying Dai, Remi Harris, Nerea Martín Raya, Tamara Lucía Febles Arévalo, Sara García-González and Julius Schlumberger reflected the interdisciplinary approach of the project and were very well received. The gathering in Laxenburg also brought an opportunity for some of the project’s PhD students and Early Career Researchers to meet for the first time in person.

The annual meeting was organised in a way that project members who didn’t have the chance to travel to Austria could take part in all sessions virtually.

The next general assembly meeting is planned for spring 2023.
